CURATORIAL SERVICES & GRANT WRITING SERVICES

While working in the museum environment, Deb took conservation courses and workshops from the renowned Balboa Conservation Institute in California.  She also completed the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) workshop on Visual Arts & The Law.  She understands both the artistic and business side of assembling a collection, ensuring that the work is displayed in a safe manner to guarantee its longevity and enjoyment for years to come.  In the photography on the left, a painting and artifact used in creating this work by Ray Swanson CA was featured in the Ray Swanson "A Life Lived The Beauty Way" exhibition developed in conjunction with the Swanson family and led to the location of a permanent studio replica honoring the legacy of this renowned Western Artist. Subsequent pages show an exhibition called "Lillian Wilhelm Smith:  A Centennial Treasure" opened at the Sedona Arts Center in November 2012 and was supported by a grant written to the Arizona Humanities Council to provide educational programming related to the exhibition theme.  The catalog for a larger exhibition entitled "Arizona's Pioneering Women Artists" currently at the Museum of Northern Arizona thru Spring 2013.  The catalog recently was accepted into the Smithsonian educational library of the National Portrait Gallery.  Deb worked with the collector in providing photographs for the catalog.  Deb also acted as a consultant and production coordinator for a doctoral dissertation project video that was based on the "Generations" exhibition at the Phippen Museum during her tenure as Museum Curator/Collections Manager.  Photo shown features the granddaughter of George Phippen CA, Sarah Phippen who is a talented sculptress and painter, with her father, Darrell.  This exhibition was one of the most popular at the Phippen Museum during Deb's tenure.
